The Quiet Life in Walton, NY
Welcome to Walton. It is a very small, quiet and peaceful valley located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in Upstate NY.
I have decided to create this page, to give the people of the world, a glimpse into the small town life. It is hard for me to believe that there are people from our country, that have not seen a cow in real life, or perhaps had the chance to view a deer dip it's lips to the water for a refreshing drink of water. But, there are people that have never had the opportunity to see what the country life is really like. Until now.

Walton is a very small town that was founded in 1785. There are approximately 5,000 people living here. Along with the attractions our town has to bring you here, there are also many other attractions. Located in nearby Cooperstown is the Baseball Hall of Fame, and Oneonta has the National Soccer Hall of Fame and Hall of Fame Playing Fields. This area boasts of world famous natural attractions, as well. There are majestic mountains. Miles of rivers and streams. The weather of this area is ever changing and interestingly unique. From Fall, to Winter, to Spring and to Summer. Each season change is defined and pronounced, as well as enticing to tourists and photographers. The serenity of the Fall, with it's interesting clash of colors of the trees changing colors against a pristine blue sky is rather breathtaking. The Winter's wonderfully white blanket of snow creates a rustic feel, with the numerous cabins that dot the mountain sides. Spring offers a look at new life being formed and shaped from the fallen leaves of Fall. The greenery is a site to be seen, as  Mother Nature sends her offspring of freshly born animals scurrying into the fields for nourishment. A pair of binoculars is a wise choice. When Summer springs itself onto this area, things heat up. It becomes comfortably warm, with evenings of cool breezes ... nights made for strolls in the local parks. The local baseball farm team, or "Single A" for the Detroit Tigers is a great way to spend a summer evening. If you feel like traveling, there is also a "Double AA" farm team in Binghamton, NY. Namely, The Binghamton Mets. There are many, many more attractions for this area such as fishing, guided tours, and many eateries to suit all tastes There als is, of course, shopping. Lodging ranges from purely elegant, to simply rustic and comfortable.  There are numerous Bed and Breakfasts in this area.

If you have ever had to urge to relax and enjoy the finer things in life, then Walton is a place you'd want to at least visit. Since it is so laid back, we have attracted a lot of celebrities to live here. I'd rather not name all on here, but we do have a good number of them that live here now. It's a place to "raise children."  Employment here isn't exactly booming right now, but the town officials are trying their hardest to bring good manufacturing jobs here. So, if you are looking to move your company, we have the land and skilled workers that can handle the work!

And, without further ado, here is a glimpse at Walton and it's surrounding areas. To see the pictures more clearly, click on the thumbnail, and then click your browser's "BACK" button to return here.

These pictures are of the Cannonsville Reservoir. It is a very large section of land, that was basically stolen from the locals, so that NYC could have drinking water. This particular reservoir is approximately 25 miles long, and at some parts, 3 miles wide! It holds a staggering 3.5 trillion gallons of water! It is part of a 5 reservoir system, that feeds the "Big Apple" with water. Now, the Cannonsville is actually used to regulate the amount of salt water that can "track upstream" in the Hudson River. There are alot of tensions between the elderly locals, and NYC...stemming from the "robbing of the land". It is, however a very breathtaking location. I highly recommend a drive around the reservoir if you ever get a chance to visit this area. The best, of course is when you ride a motorcycle around it on a hot summer day.
After seeing these, you just may want to move here. Good thing the picture of the deer sipping water from the stream didn't come out...it would have been irresistible.

Not too long ago, Walton and the surrounding area suffered from severe tornados. These were the worst ever recorded here. The amount of tornados that touched down here alone, was staggering. We experienced more "twisters" in a two day span, than this area has seen over the past half century! All in all, there were 39 confirmed tornados, and one of which was tracked by the NWS at 67 miles long, and turned into an F3 (206 mile/hour winds) just as it hit the Cannonsville Reservoir. The damage was minimal, considering the actual destruction that could have occurred. Below are links to just a few pictures that I have taken. I didn't feel it just of me to show the damaged housing and personal devastation, so I am only adding the pics of trees. I hope that you never experience something like this, it was pretty nerve-wracking!
